Municipal Works Australia (MWA) successfully hosted its Glenorchy Field Day on 25 February 2026 at Tolosa Park, Tolosa Street, Glenorchy, bringing together 140 staff from councils across Tasmania for a day of industry engagement, networking and knowledge sharing.

The event featured 28 exhibitors showcasing plant, equipment, technology and services that support the delivery of municipal works across the state. The strong turnout highlighted the continued importance of practical, on-the-ground events that connect councils with industry partners and each other.

Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey officially welcomed attendees and spoke about the ongoing development of Tolosa Reserve. She also acknowledged the significant contribution of Glenorchy’s municipal works staff, praising the quality and professionalism of their work in delivering essential infrastructure and community assets.

A keynote address was delivered by Brendan Gale of the Tasmanian Devils AFL, who provided insights into the establishment of Tasmania’s AFL team. Mr Gale outlined the work being undertaken in partnership with Kingborough Council to develop the club’s new training facility at the Twin Ovals Reserve, highlighting the important role local government plays in enabling major sporting and community infrastructure projects.

MWA CEO Peter Ali said the strong attendance reflected the value councils place on collaboration and continuous improvement.

“Our Tasmanian Field Days provide a practical forum for council staff and suppliers to connect, share ideas and see the latest innovations supporting municipal operations,” Mr Ali said.

“It was fantastic to see 140 council staff in attendance and strong support from 28 exhibitors. The engagement throughout the day demonstrates the strength of the municipal works sector in Tasmania.”

Following the success of the Glenorchy event, MWA plans to hold its next Tasmanian Field Day in northern Tasmania in the second half of 2026, with further details to be announced soon.
