Municipal Works Australia’s recent Latrobe Field Day, held on 12 August 2026 at the Latrobe and Districts Youth Centre in Tasmania, brought together local government works professionals and industry suppliers for a successful morning of networking, equipment displays, demonstrations and practical conversations.

The event attracted municipal works staff from councils across northern and north-west Tasmania, reinforcing the value of regional events that bring industry directly to the people responsible for maintaining roads, parks, open spaces, fleets and community infrastructure.

MWA was particularly pleased with the strong support from Latrobe and Kentish Councils, whose involvement helped make the event possible.

Strong local government attendance
Council staff attended from across the region, including representatives from:

·         Latrobe Council

·         Kentish Council

·         Waratah-Wynyard Council

·         Devonport City Council

·         Burnie City Council

·         Central Coast Council

·         City of Launceston

·         Circular Head Council

·         Northern Midlands Council

·         Meander Valley Council

Attendees included works managers, supervisors, team leaders, operators, mechanics, fleet and procurement staff, parks and recreation officers, civil construction workers and other operational staff.

This diversity was one of the strengths of the day, creating opportunities for practical discussions about the everyday challenges facing municipal works teams and the products, services and technologies available to support them.

Industry on display
MWA would also like to acknowledge the exhibitors who supported the event and invested the time to bring their products, equipment and expertise to Tasmania.

Participating exhibitors included Page Hire, Envu, HireQuip, Payton Road and Traffic, R&S Grating, William Adams, Sweepers and Scrubbers, Fulton Hogan, Greenway Weed Solutions, Link Resources, JF Machinery, Hiway, SuperSealing, M. Tucker & Sons, Webster Trucks, Pellows Saws and Mowers, Downer EDI Group – Upatch, Milwaukee Tools, Nubco, Oasis Turf, Omnigrip Direct, Brandt and Tefco Piping Systems.

The range of exhibitors reflected the breadth of the municipal works sector, with products and services covering heavy plant and equipment, road construction and maintenance, traffic products, vegetation management, tools, fleet solutions, turf and open space management, civil infrastructure, training and specialist services.

The field day format gave council staff an opportunity to speak directly with suppliers, inspect equipment and discuss practical applications in an informal setting.

Bringing the industry together
Regional field days remain an important part of MWA’s national events program.

For council staff, they provide a convenient way to see new equipment, products and technologies without having to travel long distances to larger metropolitan exhibitions.

For exhibitors, they provide direct access to the people involved in specifying, purchasing, operating and maintaining equipment and infrastructure across local government.

Most importantly, the events create opportunities for municipal works professionals to connect with their peers, exchange ideas and learn from the experiences of other councils.

MWA CEO Peter Ali said the level of participation at Latrobe demonstrated the strength of the municipal works community in Tasmania.

“Regional events work because they bring the industry directly to the people who are doing the work every day,” Peter said.

“It was great to see such a broad cross-section of council staff attending and spending time with our exhibitors.

“We are very grateful to Latrobe and Kentish Councils for supporting the event, and to every exhibitor who made the effort to participate. Their support allows MWA to continue delivering accessible professional development and networking opportunities throughout Tasmania.”
