Municipal Works Australia members are being invited to help represent the municipal works sector on new Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) State Asset Integrity & Safety Advisory Groups.
BYDA is establishing state-based advisory groups to strengthen industry collaboration and provide strategic input on issues including utility coordination, civil construction, data accuracy, safety, BYDA referrals and constructability.
MWA has been invited to nominate representatives for each of the following groups:
- NSW/ACT
- Queensland
- Victoria/Tasmania
- Northern Territory/South Australia
- Western Australia
The groups will provide a collaborative state-based forum focused on improving safety, damage prevention and operational excellence. Meetings will be held twice each year via Teams, bringing together utility owners, industry stakeholders, regulators, subject matter experts and industry association representatives.
A key objective is to broaden the range of industry experience contributing to discussions around civil construction and utility coordination, while helping improve processes and the end-user experience.
The advisory groups are intended to include senior representatives with experience in areas such as asset management, infrastructure delivery and safety, helping ensure that discussions can lead to practical outcomes and progress.
An opportunity for municipal works professionals
For MWA members, this is an opportunity to bring a local government and municipal works perspective to important national and state-based discussions about working safely around underground infrastructure.
The experience of council works teams, engineers, asset managers and infrastructure professionals can provide valuable insight into the practical challenges associated with utility information, project planning, construction and maintenance activities.
The first advisory group meetings are scheduled for late October.
MWA members interested in representing the Association on one of the state groups are encouraged to express their interest.
