Behind the Scenes of Sustainable Stormwater Innovation

On Friday, 13 February 2026, Tefco Piping Systems and Stromen, in conjunction with MWA and IPWEA Tasmania, hosted an exclusive behind-the-scenes site tour of their Westbury facility, offering members a firsthand look at modern stormwater manufacturing and sustainability in action.

Founded in Tasmania, with its original head office in Deloraine, Tefco Piping Systems has grown into a key contributor to the state’s civil infrastructure sector. Today, the company proudly manufactures the only locally produced stormwater pipes in Tasmania — an important milestone that supports local jobs, reduces transport impacts, and strengthens supply chain resilience across the state.

The event took attendees through the entire production journey, from HDPE recycling to the final Corrutech stormwater solution. Participants gained practical insight into how recycled materials were transformed into high-performance infrastructure products designed to meet the demands of today’s civil and municipal projects.

The tour provided a valuable opportunity to see advanced manufacturing processes up close, including quality control procedures, engineering considerations, and the sustainability initiatives embedded throughout the operation. For professionals across works, assets, and engineering, the session delivered both technical depth and real-world application.

Ian McPherson, Business Development Manager at Tefco Piping Systems, said the day was about demonstrating what is possible when sustainability and engineering innovation come together.

“It was fantastic to welcome industry colleagues on site and showcase the full lifecycle of our stormwater solutions — from recycled material through to finished product. As a Tasmanian-founded business, we’re proud to be manufacturing the state’s only locally produced stormwater pipes. Sustainability is no longer an add-on; it’s embedded in how we design and manufacture. Seeing that process firsthand helps build confidence in the performance, quality, and environmental outcomes our products deliver.”

Beyond the factory floor, the event created meaningful networking opportunities. Industry peers from local government and the broader civil sector connected and shared insights on innovation, circular economy practices, and the future of stormwater management in Tasmania.

Held at 7 Gatenby Drive, Westbury, the program ran from 11:00 AM to 2:15 PM and delivered an informative and engaging afternoon that highlighted the strength of collaboration between local manufacturing and the municipal sector.
