The program for Municipal Works Australia’s 2027 National Municipal Works & Engineering Conference is now available, bringing together practical industry insights, equipment innovations and fresh perspectives on the future of municipal works.
Taking place at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in Bendigo on 17–18 March 2027, the conference will explore the theme Smarter, Faster, Greener Municipal Works.
The two-day program gives municipal works professionals opportunities to learn from council experiences, explore new technologies, and connect with colleagues and suppliers across Australia.
Keynote speakers
The conference features four keynote speakers bringing perspectives on leadership, resilience, decision-making and change:
- Steve Moneghetti AM will explore endurance, resilience and high performance.
- Narelle Fraser, former detective with Victoria Police’s Homicide, Rape and Sexual Crimes Squads, will share lessons in performing under pressure.
- Dr Sarah Lawley, Founder and Director of RPD Insights, will examine the Australian energy market.
- David Campese AM, Wallabies legend and Rugby World Cup champion, will offer insights into teamwork, creativity and backing your judgement.
Practical ideas for municipal works
Technical sessions and council case studies will examine challenges and opportunities facing municipal works teams, including asphalt innovation, specialised machinery, road worker protection, concrete recycling and the use of artificial intelligence in local government.
The program also gives a voice to the next generation of municipal works professionals, with discussions on entering the sector, building a career and learning from graduate experiences. A presentation on lessons from a European and UK study tour will offer further opportunities to consider different service-delivery approaches.
Equipment, demonstrations and industry connections
Alongside the conference sessions, delegates can explore indoor and outdoor exhibitions, meet suppliers and see live demonstrations of plant, equipment and services.
Trade floor discussions will provide further opportunities to exchange ideas and ask questions, including the Roads of the East Forum, a Local Government Fireside Chat and sessions with Greenway Weed Solutions.
The Komatsu Conference Dinner on Wednesday 17 March will bring delegates together for an evening of networking and conversation.
For those extending their stay, an active transport walking tour on Friday 19 March will showcase projects in Bendigo’s city centre.
