OmniGrip Direct Opens its first Queensland Depot

25 October, 2021

Tired of short-lived high-maintenance surfaces in your bike lanes? Need high friction surfaces that actually last? Want to use more Australian recycled-glass in your projects?

Our Platinum Sponsor, OmniGrip Direct has more than 20 years’ experience in coloured bicycle lane and bus lane surfaces using Australian recycled-glass, and calcined-bauxite high friction surfaces. OmniGrip Direct’s Melbourne office and depot is in Thomastown and its showroom in Queen Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

Darren Scerri, Chief Executive, explained, ‘With the introduction of mandatory prequalification of surfacing materials by Transport and Main Roads and the Local Roads Alliance, we’ve decided to open our first Queensland depot in Brisbane. We’ve been receiving requests from Queensland Councils and contractors for several years, and with TMR releasing tougher specifications and TIPES prequalification for coloured surface treatment and high friction surface treatment we’ve decided the time is right.’

‘We want Queensland’s road and path managers to have access to proven compliant safety surfaces that last, so they can keep their community safe using Australian recycled-glass and our long lasting calcined bauxite surfacing system.’

Part of the SmarterLite Group, OmniGrip Direct also supplies a broad range of safety solutions for road and path managers, including wired, battery-only and solar hybrid LED pavement markers, Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles (TGSI) and Safety Path photoluminescent linemarking and coatings.

“We’re about to open our showroom at the depot in Archerfield. It’s so important for Council engineering and operations staff to be able to touch, feel and see how they can quickly improve safety on their networks. We specialise in technology that is fast to apply to achieve safety and environmental improvements”, said Darren.

SmarterLite and OmniGrip Direct have each received grants from the Australian Government’s Road Safety Innovation Fund for photoluminescent line and signs, and OmniGrip Direct is working with the Australian Road Research Board to develop a new safety surface for Australian roads.
